Places to Play: A Celebration of New Play Areas for Local Homeless Children
Raleigh, NC — On Monday, November 21st at 9am, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the successful renovation of three play areas for children at the Wake Interfaith Hospitality (WIHN) day center. Thanks to volunteer efforts, children of homeless families will have fun, safe, and supportive environments to grow in while their families make a sustainable transition to independent living.
Two weekends ago, a team of community members, WIHN families and staff, and a team from the WorldLegacy’s Leadership Program collaborated to retrofit an aging playground, refurbish a nursery and playroom, and raise funds to support project costs and purchase new furniture for the WIHN center.
“WIHN is a vital member of our community,” according to Peggy Mattingly, one of the project organizers. “To support their efforts, and make a difference for the children who use the center, is an honor and a privilege.”
The WorldLegacy project work, including removing sand, laying mulch, repairing fences, adding new
landscaping, installing new carpet, painting walls, raising money, and much more was completed in two full days of work with only two weeks of planning. The project was capped by adding painted hand prints of children at the center along the walls of the playroom. This was indeed an extreme makeover.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will mark the completion of the project, and will be held at 903 Method Rd, Raleigh, NC 27606. Volunteers and WIHN staff will be available for comments and interviews immediately following.
